MTN Nigeria in partnership with licensed Mobile Money Operators/Banks is offering Mobile money services to the public as part of efforts to support the CBN’s goal of promoting cashless financial transactions in Nigeria. MobileMoney is a service allowing you to transfer money using a mobile phone. MobileMoney is available to all subscribers (Prepaid and Postpaid). Registration is Free and available at any MobileMoney merchants country wide.
MTN Mobile Money is an electronic wallet service that enables you to send and receive money
anywhere in Nigeria using your phone. Virtual Banking, bridging the gap to the un-banked. MTN MobileMoney provides a fast, secure, affordable and convenient way to send money to anyone on their mobile phone anywhere in Nigeria no matter the network. This service is available to every MTN Mobile customer.

When you receive money from another MTN MobileMoney user, you can choose to withdraw at an authorised agent or send it to someone else.
Getting started...
You will firstly need to upgrade your SIM card to one that is MobileMoney enabled by process of a SIM Swap, visit any authorised MTN Mobile Money agent. Then the agent will take you through the FREE registration process
Fill out a registration form
Make sure to have an original and a photocopy of any of these identification documents: Valid Passport, Driver’s License, Company ID, Government ID, Voter’s Card
Complete registration and open an account.
How to Load MobileMoney
Provide the following at a authorised MTN Mobile Money Agent:
Your MTN mobile number, which doubles as your MTN MobileMoney account number
The amount of money you wish to credit onto your MobileMoney account
Your ID document
You will receive confirmation via SMS that your account has been credited.
Send Money
You can send money to a fellow MobileMoney subscriber or to Non-Subscriber
To send money to a MobileMoney subscriber
- On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
- Click on MobileMoney followed by Send Money then click Mobile User
- Enter receivers mobile number
- Repeat the mobile number
- Enter the amount you wish to send
- Enter a reference, e.g. ...John from Jack ...(optional)
- Confirm the details supplied
- Enter your Account PIN
- You will receive a confirmation message
- On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
- Click on MobileMoney -> Send Money -> Others
- Enter the amount you wish to send
- Select a four-digit secret code
- Repeat the secret code
- Confirm the details supplied
- Enter your Account PIN
- You will receive an SMS containing the secret code and a Token (a randomly generated twelve-digit number)
- Pass on the Token and the secret code to the receiver. Thereafter, the receiver goes to a MobileMoney Agent to cash out the money.
- Go to a any MobileMoney Cash-Out agent
- Tell the agent you have a MobileMoney Token to cash-out
- Give the token to the agent, but not the secret code
- The agent will enter this Token on his mobile phone
- Agent will hand over his phone to you to enter the Secret Code
- Enter the Secret Code on the agents mobile phone
- The system will process your Cash-out request
Withdraw MobileMoney
You may withdraw money from your account in two ways:
- Via a participating agent
- Via an ATM
- Visit any MobileMoney Cash-Out agent
- Tell the agent how much you wish to cash-out
- On your phone menu navigate to MTN Services
- Click on MobileMoney -> Allow Cash-Out
- Select Cash-Out ON
- Enter your Account PIN
- Supply your mobile number to the agent
- Await a confirmation prompt from the system (sent by the agent to your phone)
- Click Ok when the confirmation prompt arrives on your phone
- Click Yes to approve the cash-out
- Enter your account PIN
- You will receive a confirmation message of the successful cash-out along with the remaining MobileMoney balance after the transaction.
- Receive the cash from the agent
To withdraw money via an ATM you must ensure your debit card is linked to your account and is switched on. As a non-registered MTN MobileMoney recipient will have to provide the agent with: An appropriate identification document, a token number, then personally enter the secret code into the agent’s phone
Deposit money into your account
You may deposit money into your account through a MobileMoney scratch card
- On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
- Click on MobileMoney ..... Load Account
- Select MM Scratch Card
- Enter the twelve-digit PIN as printed on the Scratch Card
- Confirm the details supplied
- Enter your Account PIN
- Your will receive a confirmation message of the successful loading.
- Pay your bill through MobileMoney to settle a utility payment (as such DStv):
- Go to MTN menu in your phone menu and select MobileMoney
- Select Pay Bill
- Select DStv
- Enter your DStv Smartcard number (11 digits)
- Enter your bouquet package amount Enter your PIN and Confirm
- Buy Airtime
- Buying MTN airtime for yourself or someone else.
Select Buy and follow the prompts
You and your recipient will receive a confirmation SMS of the completed transaction.
Extra MTN MobileMoney features include managing your account:
Balance Check and Mini-Statement.
Check account Balance
- On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
- Click on MobileMoney -> Manage Account -> Check Balance
- Enter your account PIN
- You will receive a message with your balance.
- On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
- Click on MobileMoney -> Manage Account-> View Statement
- Enter your account PIN
- You will receive a message containing the five (5) latest transactions on your account.
